Stones of Agemo

From Mondarth Codex

These stones operate in pairs, each pair are identical in colouration and shape but pairs are unique. They appear to be unremarkable stones (as one might use in a slingshot) but when one of the pair is tapped on a hard surface it and its partner emit a distinct glow. Using this property it is possible for two people to communicate over great distance.

The stones must be held by a living being when used as they draw power from the user. Users report feeling fatigued when the stones are widely separated, this is likely because more of the user's life energy is required.

The maximum range of these stones has yet to be tested. They are known to work over several hundred miles and do not seem to be limited by terrain. Although the immediate cost to the user is apparent there does not seem to be any long-term ill effects.

The stones operate in pairs. The alpha stone must be in the presence (within 10–15 feet) of a Dragonborn. The beta can be used by anyone. All of the beta stones glow red while alpha stones each glow a different colour (though, obviously, not red). Stones glow proportionate with the strength of the tap.

Origins

These stones are very rare. They are a Dragonborn artefact made from Thaumicium taken from dead Wyrmlings of young dragons. These are recovered from natural deaths, no warden would slaughter dragonkind.

The thaumicium is then shaped before undergoing a secret process known only to the Order of Khol. The stones are then cleaved and polished to create the final pair.

The rarity of suitable thaumicium in Prukath makes the stones possessed by Drogon Albest unique on the continent, but on Eosayand they are more common (but still rare). The Order of Khol is careful to control the stones.
