Magic System (Core)

All magic in Mondarth ultimately stems from a magic field that permeates all of the Spheres of Existence. Magic users all manipulate this field to achieve the effects of magic.

For magic associated with deities the adherent calls upon their deity to channel power through them. A deity may confer abilities onto individuals allowing them to manipulate the magical field. This power is a gift from the deity and can be withdrawn.

For magical users who are more scholarly (arcane), the manipulation is a matter of study. Learning how specific movements, sounds, and materials effect the field and in turn how the field effects the world.

Some magic users are aware of the power of Thaumite but its significance to their practices will vary. This knowledge is often the preserve of senior practitioners and can be a closely guarded secret. It is the environmental presence of thaumite that allows mortals to use magic at all and, as noted in the thaumite article, magical efects are more difficult to achieve when thaumite is not close-by. (It is for this reason that magic users often carry a focus, and this focus contains thaumite.)
